1st Team Match Report - 2nd September 2006

(Essex Intermediate Cup 1st round away to Chelsmford)
Score: 17 - 3

Canvey knew it wasn't going to be their day when they lost 3 players in the warm up. Going into the game with a disjointed pack and players carrying injuries, they played with the wind in their faces and up a slope. Canvey held Chelmsford to 3 points in the first half.

Turning round at half time, hopeful of turning the game with the elements in their favour, Canvey suffered more injury woe loosing Mark Colville who stepped into prop at the last minute. Mark had to leave the match with a dislocated finger. Dave Gillespie was next to go with a chest injury. Jamie Saunders who was struggling at the start had to leave the pitch and skipper Alex Breading, with no replacements to bring on, had to play on with a knee injury which resulted in him being out for at least a month.

Canvey managed to kick a pen from the boot of Bret Smith but conceded two try's including one a harsh penalty try. Despite going out of the Essex Cup this early in the season Alex Breading was not too despondent saying despite the injuries before and during the game, we showed we can compete at this level and would like to thank all the boys that stepped in at the last minute.

Man of the match: Lloyd Miller
