1st Team Match Report - 4th November 2006

(Away to Sudbury)
Score: 37 - 10

This was clearly a game of two distint halves. From the kick off Canvey's forwards dominated all the early exchanges and took the game to the larger Sudbury pack. Both teams shared early penalties when from a lineout outside the 22m Canveys pack drove forward for Gillespie to crash over. The try was converted by Brett Smith, with a heathly 10-3 advantage until the last few minutes of the first half when Sudbury scored two quick tries, one converted to give them a 15-10 lead at the interval.

Canveys' cause was not helped by a serious injury to No.8 Martin Ewins who was taken to hospital as a precaution. In the second half Sudbury clearly stepped up their performance helped by some interesting refereeing decisions which restricted Canvey from developing any pattern of play. Sudbury killed the game (as a contest) off with four tries and one conversion in the last 15 minutes.

Canvey can clearly learn from this defeat as they prepare for the visit of Stowmarket next week.
