(Home against Wisbech)
Score: 12 - 0

This week Canvey played host to Wisbech, and were looking to maintain the positive turn around they had made the week before against Chelmsford .

The Islanders were dominant from the start, scrummaging Wisbech of the ball, and owning the set pieces. James Breading and Darren Smith combined well in the lineouts, and Lee Brumwell and James Saunders were relentless. In fact it wasn't long before cracks in the front row started to show for the visitors, as their tighthead prop was substituted early on.

The blue and red hoops marched on as Brumwell stormed off from the back of a ruck, and offloaded in contact to the supporting run of fullback David Dennis for a well deserved 5pts. The try went unconverted. The Tewkes creek outfit now smelt blood and went for the Wisbech jugular.

With the ball in open play it found its way into the hands of Kevin Cooper, who maintained his rich vain of form by destroying the visitors back line with a surging run from 22m out. This time Brett Smith was able to convert.

Just as things were going so well, yet another one of Wisbech's front row went down injured. This happened just before half time meaning now all scrums would go uncontested. This did Canvey no favours. Canvey camped out on the visitors 5m line pretty much the rest of the game. The Islanders would get stopped on the Wisbech line, and the resulting scrum going uncontested, would result in giving the visitors an easy clearance.

The uncontested nature really took the rhythm out of Canvey's play, and the home side felt frustrated. But on the positive, its another two points for a resurgent Canvey side, with players now returning from injury the belief now is that anything is possible, as the Islanders prove they are worthy of being a London 4 NE side.

Man of the match: Kevin Cooper
