Under 16's Match Report - 3rd December 2006
(Home against Southend)
Score: 0 - 22
With a pitch as sloshy and muddy as can be and a few drizzles of rain, there was no way that this game would be a clean encounter.
As the kickoff came about, the sun started to glisten a little and both teams were ready to charge.
Southend came straight at Canvey and tested the islanders defence from the word go, continually pushing and driving over, eventually leading to a Southend Try.(unconverted)
The scrum was an area of the game which defined much of what was going to transpire throughout the match with the physically larger Southend forwards trying to use their bulk to their advantage.
With a Canvey mis-feed Southend were granted a free-kick 5 yards from the Canvey line and managed to score from the tap. (converted)
Continually, Canvey defended their line from the imposing threat of Southend, many players threw themselves in for the tackles, some successful, others not.
Canvey once more tried to stop Southend in their ttracks, with every forward and almost every back trying to prevent a Southend attack, yet when Southend offloaded to their rather large Second Row a try was imminent. (unconverted)
Jack Chandler continued the ceremonies after sending a kick right at Southend, Canvey put their opposition under some serious pressure, this time in their own half!
Southend jittered, dropped balls and tried to kick out, yet the pressure eased when the half time whistle blew.

The second half started as the first finished witha Canvey kick launched straight into the Southend pack, causing a few problems.
Canveys back play has rapidly increased, now they are getting ball from their forwards and pulling off a few fancy manouvers, with Matt 'Gervais' Gevaux, Shaun 'Haemeroid' Hulroyd, Russell Lynes and Jake 'Forest' Young all making runs and dummys and all that stuff backs do.
Foward play was rather good, but then again it could have been better, most of the forwards were making yards and presenting the ball well, Keiron 'Piggy' Nash made some brilliant decisions further heating up the back row compeition.
Injuries riddled Canvey throughout the match, with Bobby 'Riddlz' Cosine being taken off and ending up in an ambulance. Billy 'Stavros' Gorringe complaining with hamstring problems and Jack 'Clementsoo' Clement leaving the field with a bad leg.
The second half was much better for Canvey, they managed to concede 2 tries (both unconverted), yet the play was much better and the determination was there.
Towards the death of the game, the intensity was rising just a little and a few little scuffles proceeded, a while after Luke 'Tank' Lanza fell victim yet the referee didnt see the incident, after a little moment of aggrivation, he was awarded with a Yellow Card.
The game finished after spilled ball, and both teams walked off the pitch.
With Biff, Kevin Cooper, Brett Smith, Luke Smith and Delboy all watching over the game, each gave their own words of wisdom at the close, with Billy 'PrettyBoy' Marsh being awarded MoTM, and the Clement Brothers given the double wig.
