Under 16's Match Report - 4th March 2007

Score: 17 - 36
After an absolute stuffing from Thurrock in the away fixture, the Canvey Boys would be looking to reek some kind of revenge on the boys in black.
Kicking off with a scratch XV Canvey were fired up and straight to the attack, it did not take long for a combined forwards and backs effort to send Billy 'Stavros' Gorringe over the line and put the home team 5 points ahead (unconverted).
Once more taking the game to the travelling side, Canvey courageously drilled deeper into the opposition half, playing like a completely different team to the last time the two met.
More running and exploiting gaps culminated into a Jake Young try (converted)
Leading 12-0 to a side which totally decimated the boys 53-10, 7 weeks ago, lifted the spirits of the Canvey fans and players, yet slight over confidence cost 2 trys against Canvey, bringing the Half Time score to 12-12
Kicking off the second half level at 12 a piece, the game was not won nor lost for either side.
Some Canvey players made quite an impression today, leading the line was Billy 'Stavros' Gorringe who ran like a centre and Tackled like the big lump he is, a very good game at 8 for the young lad.
Conceding 4 Tries and 2 Conversions within the second half was not bad at all in comparison to last time, every Canvey player should be proud that they performed with a hell of a lot of gumption.
All was not bad though in the second half, as a huge surge upfield ended up with Jake Young scoring number 5 of the season (unconverted).
Billy ' Stavros' Gorringe was rightfully given the Man Of The Match, but serious contenders came in the form of Matt 'Brent' Gevaux who played superb at 10, Jake Young for 2 well fought tries and New boy Dan with an impressive debut.
