Under 16's Match Report - 17th December 2006

(Home against Braintree)
Score: 10 - 10

With an ever growing head of steam, the Wildcats came into their final game of 2006 brimming with passion and drive. Yet with a few cry-offs and absentees the Wildcats struggled to make a scratch XV. Not naming names, but Billy 'Stavors Gorringe, Steve 'The Feller' Thurlow and Jamie 'Blondie' Wallace were absent with no relevant excuse. Shaun 'sorry' Hulroydwe knew about and Russel Lynes and Bobby' Riddlz' Corsine were away on holiday.

The kick-off was Canvey's to Braintree, which gave the home side an insight into what their opposition were capable of. For the first 15 minutes, Canvey were constantly being hammered into their own 22. Within the first 2 minutes Canveys aggression was shown, with the Braintree Full Back leaving the field injured!!!

Yet displaying marvelous defensive work, eventually Braintree mistakes started to add up, and Canvey had to make an awesome transition from Defence to Attack and a Bristol Ball Line-out gave Luke Lanza a drive over try (unconverted) (Bristol Ball Line-out © Kevin Cooper).

Being 5 points up, Canvey were all elated as the game continued, constant pressure being applied to the Braintree team lead to rucks, mauls and fine displays of running (Scott 'Trigger' Aplin of all people )

Yet Canvey weren't all roses, Billy 'PrettyBoy' Marsh was caught for fringing on a fair few occasions, some legit, others not so! Eventually the hard work paid off for Canvey, as they further pushed the Braintree side back, allowing Luke 'SpamMan' Nicholls to dive over for the 2nd Try. (unconverted)

The Match carried on for a few more moments until the Half Time Whistle blew.

NO SUBS (bare XV Players)

The second half began with Braintree booting towards Canvey and much of the same from the first half was displayed, Braintree were able to replenish their ranks on a rather constant basis with fresh legs on the pitch throughout the 2nd half.

Canvey continued their hard work in the second half, with some truly great rugby being displayed by both forwards and backs alike.

Jake 'Messy' Fedelmeisi, Luke 'SpamMan' Nicholls, The Clement Brothers, Scott 'Trigger' Aplin, Jack Chandler and Keiron 'Piggy' Nash all played out of their skins, making each tackle count and each move work.

Just as the 1st half brought Canvey Tries, the 2nd provided Braintree with 2 unconverted tries, one a well worked effort combining the whole team, the other a lucky penalty move.

With the closing three minutes, Canvey had the chance to score and opted for touch, a mis-thrown line-out piled the pressure on both sides and continious suspended rucks and mauls developed, until a wrongly called Offside by Billy 'PrettyBoy' Marsh lead to a change in posession, Braintree opted to run their penalty and with their fly half attempting a kick the Match ended.

A well played match, and a suprise to the opposition, look out 2007 The Wildcats are ready to roar!!! The Return leg against Basildon sees The Wildcats looking to gain revenge in the 1st game of the new Year.
