Under 16's Match Report - 25th March 2007
(Home against Tamworth - on tour)
Score: 0 - 34
Going into a game facing a 14-man touring side, Canvey did have a slight advantage, which was further emphasised when Tamworth went down to 13 men after an early injury, but this now heavy advantage made no difference on the pitch.
An early try set Tamworth up with a 5 point lead, followed by quite heavy defence and another 3 tries, with a single conversion. Ending the first half with an 18 point lead.
Towards the last 10 of the first half Canvey did show some signs of fight, yet couldn't turn possesion into points.
HALF TIME - OFF: Jack Clement, Jake Clement, Jake Fedelmeisi; ON: Scot Applin, Jamie Cooper, Lewis Sanderson
The second half started as the first ended, with Canvey defending exceptionally well, stopping the Tamworth lads at every opportunity, eventually Tamworth wiggled through and scored number 4, followed by a further 2 and another conversion.
Canvey did try at times to get into the game, but being overlapped vs 13 players shows that certain switches weren't switched on and serious work will need to be done to beat Illford next week, but Alex Boyle was the diamond in the rough today, making some clever decisions and a few neat runs.
On a much more positive note, Tamworth may be better players, but drinking-wise, Canvey trumped the travellers 3-0 in all competitions.
'Next week boys we need to make a difference!'
