Under 16's Match Report - 26th November 2006

(Home against Burnham on Crouch)
Score: 10 - 25

Going into a game, knowing that they would be facing a team 1-2 years older, the Wildcats may have felt a little uneasy, but it didn't show during the game!!!

A Canvey kick-off started the game and from the first move, Canvey were pressing on their elders, forcing them back further and further, Steve 'The Feller' Thurlow presented ball well to the backs and forwards and even made a good few breaks himself. Doing what he usually does, Billy 'pretty boy' Marsh picked up and drived and actually made a few breaks which were cut short and could have been tries...if he passed it!

Both Billy 'Stavros' Gorringe and Luke 'Moose' Lanza made brilliant ground during the game, really surging towards the opposition and almost scored on 2 occasions within the first five minutes. Eventually after a few mishaps, Burnham managed to drive on and scored a well executed backs try(unconverted).

A little thorn in the Wildcats paw, but nonetheless, they held their heads up high and played on eventually managing to get up close to the opposition sticks where Jack 'ding dong' Chandler simply dinked the ball over (penalty scored).

With the ball finding itself back near the Canvey line, Burnham brought on the HEAVY Artillery, possibly the biggest 16 year old around stomped onto the pitch sporting a rather heavy looking ginger beard and a strong pair of legs! Within minutes of his arrival, Goliath managed to fall over the try line, sending a tremor across the field.(unconverted)

Canvey only 7 points out weren't going to go out without a fight.

With the Burnham boys displaying some rather bad communication and handling skills, Canvey managed to win the ball back on their own line almost 10 times!! Eventually Half time signalled.

NO SUBS

The second half didn't have a fairy tale beginning for The Wildcats, as a Burnham kick off quickly descended into points for the travelling side.(Unconverted)

With his first full game start, Jake 'Messy' Fedelmeisi made a great impression at Blind side Flanker, picking up the game relatively quick and making some good tackles, runs and a few sneaky hands, unnoticed by the ref.

Burnham managed to break Canvey a further two more times, both being unconverted, Canvey never once thought though, that they would be staring down the barrel at another kicking, instead the concessions inspired them and a few brilliant runs from Jake 'Forrest' Young, Shaun Hullroid and Luke 'Spam Man' Nicholls helped the Wildcats roar back on.

Substitutions were rather sparse, but a few rolling moves brought new blood onto the pitch like Andrew 'Marylin' Monroe, Bobby 'Riddlz' Cosine and Connor Cowee who all made impacts onto the game.

Jake 'Clements1' was carted off with a few problems (he ran into the ginger kid) which brought Russell Lynes to the pack for the first time since year 9 , luckily he hadn't forgot his trade and worked well both at Lock and Open side Flanker.

Jake 'Forrest' Young managed to get himself a lovely break, but ran into the foreboding No.8, yet removing him from the game, gifted Canvey an overlap, which Matt 'gervais' Gevaux a powerful break, which he ran straight beneath the posts for 5 beautiful points (converted).

The Canvey Line-Outs proved to work well today, with Scott 'Trigger' Aplin throwing well into the line and the receivers doing equally as well as the Hooker.

The game eventually drew to a close, and the score stayed at 10-25 to the elder side. But if Canvey had gotten points from the breaks early on, David would have slain Goliath in this well fought encounter.

Facing a physically older squad is no easy task but the Canvey lads gave their best team performance today Watching the opposition chuffing on f*gs and sipping pints in the Club House after the game was quite a sight but watching Andrew drink his yard was even funnier, BRING ON SOUTHEND!!!!
