Missed tackles, dropped ball, loose passing & missed penalties just about sums up Canveys afternoon at Upminster.
Canvey started well enough, playing down the slope they put pressure on Upminster for about ten minutes before the home side conceded a pen, kicked by fullback Ben Chandler. From then on Canvey could not seem to string a prolonged phase of rugby together. Turning round 3 points up Canvey knew they were in for a tough second half.
Right from the kick off Upminster attacked and Canvey conceded a soft unconverted try. Canvey made some telling breaks but either dropped the ball or the pass went astray. From a scum the ball went loose only for Upminster to pick it up and score another easy try.
Canvey then conceded a pen duly converted by Upminster. In the last seconds of the game, missed tackles handed Upminster another try to seal the game 18-3.
Canvey came away knowing they need to tighten up their game and not lose so many balls to turnovers and make first up tackles or they will be in serious relegation trouble.
