3rd Team Match Report - 11th October 2008
Score: 26 - 13
The GNUs took on second place Pegasus in a merit table clash. Both teams needing the win to top the table. Pegasus cam out strong and scored a quick try. Canvey had to change the front row early in the game to improve the platform. With Attoe, Horton and Skipper Hobart in the front Canvey dominated every scrum.
At have time Pegasus where up 8 –7, with the Canvey backs having loads of possession but unable to string the passes together.
The second half saw the Canvey back row of Turnble and Winter put some pressure on the fly half forcing a mistake. The forwards drove over and quick ball to the backs from replacement scrum half Gary Desmond saw Alfie run in an 80 metre try.
The GNUs now had a platform to give quick ball to the speedy backs and built on the early second half pressure. Pegasus got a consolation try from a rare Canvey line out mistake. Carl Symmonds disrupted the Pegasus line out all game and deserves a special mention.
A good solid league win on an October day that was more like mid August, very hot and Sunny
