2nd Team Match Report - 13th September 2008
Score: 17 - 22
First merit game for the stacks & a tight battle against a big Wanstead set of forwards.
The stacks travelled to Wanstead to play out there first merit table game, the stacks started of well in defence but conceded a early try to the Wanstead pack, skipper Danny Horton quickly gathered the boys around for a encourage chat.
20 min's later with still good defence from all players the stacks break came with a well time pass to Andrew Hardy on a explosive charge from deep and scored a well deserve TRY, (missed conversion).
The backs came in to there own this week with some great passing from young Harry Coe (Fly Half), and new boy (Outside Centre) Chay who was running from deep and slotting into the gaps and giving Wanstead all sorts of problems on the back foot.
A 40 METER bursting run down the wing from Wing Forward Aaron Sultana saw the stacks go into the lead 10 -5 for the 1 st half (missed conversion).
2 nd half Danny Horton brought on the 2 subs Mike Waters for Tony Wheeler & that nutty John Mailes for Danny Wright.
With the same old half time chat about not going to sleep in the 2 nd half, let's build on our 10-5 score we went straight out on the whistle & went to sleep and let Wanstead score in the far corner within 4 min's 10-10.
But to the Stacks defence, we kept pinning the Wanstead team down on there 22 with some top tackling from Andrew Hardy, George, Chay & Harry Coe.
10 min's had passed with some good ball work from the backs with Andrew Hardy running on to a lovely floating ball from Simon rose and scored his 2 nd Try of the day in the far corner (conversion kicked by Gary Desmond) 17-10.
Wanstead replied to our try with one of there own straight away under the posts and kicked the conversion 17-17.
The last 10 min's of the game was big defence from both teams, but the stacks came away with a double side step, big hitting try in the far corner from skipper Danny Horton to finish the game off 22-17.
Team:- Jo Symons, Danny Horton, Stavous, Aaron Sultana, Andrew Hardy, George, Tony Wheeler, Nick Edwards. Gary Desmond, Harry Coe, Simon Rose, Chay, Nasher, Rob Miles, Danny Wright, Mike Waters & John Mailes.
Skippers report:- Good game to be in and very happy with the result, my man of the match was a hard call to make with a very young Harry Coe making a good stand for fly half, but it had to go to Andrew Hardy for his match fitness and shear determination to be in the 1 st team.
