Canvey III played host to Chelmsford V for the first Merit League game of the season. Canvey fielded a strong side with a mixture of experience and youth. The first half saw Canvey dominate the scrum and loose play with trys scored by Matt Keegan, Randall Bray, Peter Hardy and Scott Floyd.
In the second half Chelmsford had a second wind and scored two quick try's. Canvey re-grouped and again dominated the scrums, and loose play with Alan Coe, and Luke Sultana both scoring try's.
3s captain Kevin Hobart said “ This is an excellent start to the league fixtures, fitness was not at its best but all the boys stuck at the job, bring on Writtle next week”
Wig of the Week – Awarded to Kenny Burkett for screaming for the ball like a big girl, only to knock on 10mtrs from the try line.
