2nd Team Match Report - 14th February 2008

(Away to Braintree)

Score: 25 - 10

The "Road Trip" Stacks were road tripping again this week in this merit table game with  Braintree

Games v  Braintree are always a hard encounter and this was to be no exception. The ground was well bogged down after the rain and snow and there was to be a few WAG's probably annoyed with the state of the kit after the game. The Stacks started to slowly and were probably a bit over awed by the bigger Braintree pack and they conceded a penalty and two early try's.

However, the Stacks mentality is to get back in at every opportunity and this proved to be the case, storming runs and great carries from the forwards saw Canvey take the game to Braintree for the rest of the first half. Some good moves in the backs and also some crunching tackles by fly half Liam O'Connor and centres Mike Waters and John Mailes, galvanised the team to get into the fray.

Half time arrived 13 - 0 to Braintree

The second half was a differant ball game as the Stacks tore into Braintree at every opportunity and were rewarded with some quality and quick ball that moved down the line for young Jake the Yank to score in the corner. With the Conversion missed the score was 13 - 5.

The next score was also from the Stacks who were statrting to get on top. Good forawrd moves and quick ball was enabling the Stacks to create havoc through the Braintree side. Luke Lanza made a storming run that nearly saw him go all the way, but just short he off loaded to Mike Waters who crashed over to score in the corner and bring the score to 13 - 10.

The simmering atmosphere exploded on a couple of occassions and it was in this that the Ref penalised Canvey with a sending off for No.8 Dave Dennis. This left Canvey a mountain to climb and with Braintree having the full compliment of subs to the Stacks 1, it was going to be a hard call for the Stacks to continue to take the game to Braintree .

And so it proved, Braintree using the overlaps scored a further 2 try's  (One converted) to win the game.

Final Score Braintree 25 - Stacks 10
