Canvey 3s travelled away for a Merit League fixture with Pegasus 2's. Canvey laying joint second with Pegasus in 4th meant it was going to be a close game. Canvey started the contest with the forwards dominating the early play. Winning a lot of loose ball and driving the Pegasus pack back in the early scrums. The early pressure soon paid off with a driving maul 10 meters out, skipper Kevin Hobart peeled off the back to take the hit off loading to Loses head prop Keith Attoe, who drove over for the first try, converted by Harry Coe playing at Fly Half.
The play continued with Canvey in control but not able to make the pressure count. With 10 minutes to go in the first half Munch took the ball in the centre from a Canvey line out, breaking two missed tackles he off loaded the ball to Kevin Hobart who took on and committed the full back. Hobart off loaded to a rampaging Back Row Forward Mark Turnble who managed to stay in play and score in the corner. The try was converted with an awesome conversion out wide by Harry Coe.
Canvey went into the half time break 0 -14 ahead. Both side made some changes at half time. Canvey seemed to go to sleep at the beginning of the second half with two harsh penalties by the ref, gave Pegasus the opportunity to take a quick tap and go to score and convert under the posts. Again Pegasus pilled on the presure and scores a second try out wide, bringing to core to 12 - 14. Canvey brought on two new players Mark North in the second row and Matt Henderson at lose head prop. The new energy in the scrum paid off with Pegasus giving away a penalty just inside the 22 meter line. Cool Harry Coe slotted it home, with no trouble. The 9 & 10 pairing of Jack Chandler and Harry Coe was excellent both knew when to take the ball on and when to get it wide.
The game finished 12 - 17 with a good win for the 3s.
