Canvey III travelled away to Braintree 4s in a friendly. Braintree struggled with players, until the vet's team returned from a failed fixture. This left Braintree with only about 8 to 10 subs.
The game started well with an early try from Dave Wood running in from a set piece move off the back of the scrum. Canvey forwards dominated the Scrum, and line out worked well with Deller making a 3rd team debut as front jumper.
The Braintree No 8 was going out of his way to take people out late, and generally being a pain, which kicked off the first brawl of the game with skipper Kevin Hobart.
The first half saw Braintree trail 12 – 5 and the ref lost control of the game, sending scrum half Harry Coe to the bin following retaliation on a football style sliding tackle.
Braintree made about 8 changes during the second half , but where still not strong enough for the Canvey pack.
The return fixture should be a more friendly game if Braintree leave the number 8 in Witham !
