1st Team Match Report - 23rd August 2008
(Trial game away to Saffron Walden)
Score: 17 - 15
Although losing this friendly 17-15 to Saffron Walden, who are a league above them, Canvey were in a positive mood. Both sides using this game as an opportunity to assess new players. Playing 4 twenty minute games Canvey started well, going into an early lead from a penalty.
Despite scoring 2 trys Canvey conceded 3, one coming late in the game to give Walden the victory.
Coach Andy Hawes said afterwards "I was quite pleased with the performance and the new players we have acquired looking promising, although im unhappy with 2 of the 3 trys we conceded. We have still got work to do before the season starts in earnest".
Next week Canvey play in a Campion 15 a-side competition, once again giving the coaches opportunity to assess the squad before they kick off the season with an E.D.F game against Whitstable.
