1st Team Match Report - 25th October 2008

Canvey went to top of the table Colchester with a reshuffled side after a late cry off and injury problems. Colchester showed why they are top right from the kick off getting a pen then a try within 10 minutes Canvey responded with a pen from the trusty boot of fullback Ben Chandler, but despite all their efforts could not stop Colchester scoring 2 more trys before half-time turning round 18-3 down.
10 minutes into the second half they found themselves 25-3 down after Colchester made a break to score. Canvey team spirit showed that they would not lay down and die resulting in them putting pressure on Colchester and after a series of penalties, which they decided to run, Canvey scored a well deserved try through scum half Brett smith.
Unfortunately Canvey were on the back foot for most of the remaining game and Colchester run out winners 39-8.
Coach Andy Hawes said "a reasonable score against an outstanding side, I was very pleased with the commitment from 1 to 18.
