3rd Team Match Report - 25th October 2008
Score: 28 - 7
This week the GNUs played host to Ilford 3s. It was set to be a hard week for skipper Kevin Hobart, when the 2s took 7 players up for the league game away to Barking 3s.
Not deterred Canvey still managed to put out a strong side with Aaron Hobart and Jack Davidson returning from injury, and a very late and welcome to Harry Coe and Jon Anderson.
Once again the GNUs lost the ref to another fixture and struggled to find a willing body. At 2.55pm Murph stepped into the breach to ref . The game started with strong pressure from the Canvey pack to once again dominate the scrum. The first try came from the forwards pressure and quick ball from Aaron through Munch to put Jack D through for a 45 meter run to the score, converted by Harry Coe.
The first half saw Canvey move the ball wide through good hands, again and again. New comer Lloyd Burnall playing on the wing ran in a classic wingers try to put Canvey even further in front, again converted by Harry Coe. Josh Campagnia joined the match at Full Back and after 30 mins ran in an excellent try from the half way mark, Harry on target with the conversion.
After 30 mins Murph left the pitch after a disagreement with some of the Ilford Players, Skipper Kevin Hobart taking over on the whistle.
At Half time Canvey where 21 – 0 up, and Ilford where down to 14, even with Paul Connelly playing for Ilford.
The second Half saw a much closer contest with Ilford fighting back to score late in the game. Jon Anderson Playing at 6 made some tremendous tackles and runs, which paid dividends when he went over for the 4th try for Canvey. Harry Coe converted the try.
Final Score Canvey 3s - 28 – Ilford 3s – 7
Pratt in the Hat – Danny Wright for another injury to add to the growing list
Man of the Match – Jack Davidson unfit but excellent work.
