(Home against Crusaders)
Score: 46 - 7
Canvey dominated this game from the start but could not turn the pressure & possession into points for much of the first half taking 17 minutes to score the first points with a penalty from Jay Bedford. Twenty minutes later they were rewarded with their first try after a catch and drive from a line-out resulting in prop Jason Fardell going over for an unconverted try. For the third game running Canvey conceded a try right on half-time when a wayward pass from a Canvey player was intercepted by the Crusaders centre to score a converted try under the posts half time 8-7.
Whatever the Canvey coaches said in the break certainly worked. 7 minutes into the second half Canvey scrum-half Brett Smith went over for a try converted by Bedford 15-7. Straight from the kick-off second row Jamie Breading caught the ball and made a surging run down the middle of the pitch and fed Brett Smith to score, converted by Bedford 22-7.
Canvey were in no mood to ease up and only minutes later Smith went over for his hat trick after some fine play from Breading and the Gillingwater brothers, Tommi and Jack, again converted by Bedford 29-7. Then from a lineout which they a been controlling all game they fed one of the top and fly-half Dave Dennis went over for a try 34-7.
Soon after Canvey defended a rare Crusaders attack and broke out of their own 22 and fed the ball to centre Morgan Evans just inside his own half who made an elusive run to score under the posts, converted by Bedford 41-7.
Coming to the end of the game Crusaders conceded a pen which was quickly taken and fed to winger Tom Dulieu who chipped over the defenders and followed up to score. Final score 46-7.
No 8 & skipper Alex Breading watching from the side lines due to a neck injury said "if we could play all our games like the second-half of this one we will not have many problems this season, i think i am going to have to work hard to get back in this team".
