Canvey III had another cry off this time from the Phyllosans. But took a fixture away to Stanford–le–Hope 2s.
Canvey started well in the first half with winger Peter Hardy opening the score sheet with a backs move to put him in at the corner. The second try soon followed with some solid rucking from the forwards. Kevin Hobart pick the ball up at the back of the ruck and drove over from 5 meters out. The third try of the half saw another strong run from Dave Woods, putting the Yank in under the posts.
The second half saw Stanford build on an early try, putting two more trys on the scoreboard and taking the second half lead. Canvey regrouped and put some good running rugby together. The pressure resulted in a penalty 6 meters out under the posts. A planned penalty move saw big Second Row Steve Atkins steam through the defence for a try just left of the posts, converted by Harry Coe.
3s captain Kevin Hobart said “Its always an enjoyable battle when Canvey and Stanford play. Its good to see old friends and the game played in a good spirit (apart from a little bit of hand bags), we all look forward to a return fixture”
