Under 13's Match Report - 14th September 2008
(Away to Barking)
Score: 25 - 0
This was the Canvey boys first match of the new season, and after a lot of hard training during the summer they arrived at Barking.
We had not played Barking at this age group before so everyone was a little unsure what to expect. The boys new Barking had a very good reputation having already won there two previous matches. Barking kicked of the game and for the the following 25 mins the play was very even.
It was good rucking and mauling from both sides that kept the game in and around the half way line and some good play from the backs created chances for both Carl and Jack Swann. Jack did get through with the ball and i am sure he would have scored if it had not been for a foul when he was brought down by his collar.
Canvey had several chances from penalties but failed to make the best of them. With 5 mins left till half time Barking came away with the ball and scored.
The second half was mainly Barkings with them scoring 4 more try s There was some great running from Greg and I am sure he will be rewarded with try s this season. But a big mention must go to the smallest person the pitch, Luke made two fantastic tackles on players not just twice but three times his size (every one else take note).
As a whole the game was a lot closer than the score line would have you think. The verdict from every one after the game was that the boys had done well and every thing the boys need for a successful season is there, we just need to take our chances, and not allow the other side to to profit from our mistakes.
And a big thank you to Barking for there hospitality.
